Meet IERAX, an experimental TVC — Thrust Vector Control — drone developed by the Epictetus team.
Unlike conventional multirotor designs, IERAX explores a ducted-fan approach in which airflow and thrust direction are controlled to enable the aircraft to hover and manoeuvre.
The project combines several engineering disciplines, from mechanical and aerodynamic design to prototyping and flight control.
Its components are designed using SOLIDWORKS and manufactured through 3D printing, allowing the team to rapidly develop and test different designs.
IERAX forms part of Epictetus’ broader effort to give students hands-on experience with the complete engineering process: designing an idea, building it, testing it and improving it through experimentation.
